Sreang “C†Hok is a documentary filmaker and has recieved a Northwest Regional Emmy award for his work as photographer/assistant editor for the film “Canopy Connections.†In 2013 he was chosen as a Snowden Intern and partnered with Portland Monthly Magazine working as a multimedia producer. The University of Oregon Gospel Choir chose him as a photographer and videographer for their 2013 tour of China. In addition, he has contributed regularly as a freelance multimedia producer for the Daily Emerald and The Oregon Voice Magazine. He also has contributed to the following current works in progress: The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, Sister Helen Prejean, and The University of Oregon Gospel Choir. As a contributor to University of Oregon multimedia groups, such as the Emerald and the Oregon Voice, he discovered that he is much more than a multimedia journalist. He had to become a problem-solver, editor, photographer, cinematographer, producer, researcher, audio technician, lighting technician, director, storyteller and more. He was responsible for some projects from inception all the way through to final delivery for the web. He often spent long hours reading discussion forums troubleshooting editing programs, watched countless hours of video tutorials, created do-it-yourself light modifiers, researched inspirational storytellers, pored over audio interviews, pre-visualized camera angles, worked in groups, thought about audio for video shoots, read obscure equipment specifications, consumed books about documentary filmmaking, and loved it. He also believes that he brings something unique and intangible to any graduate-level program. He and his family escaped Cambodia as war refugees. This life experience has shaped him immensely. It made him curious about his history and motivated him to seek out diverse experiences.. His curiosity about the world has lead him to many different jobs and experiences which he hopes will contribute to his creativity and inform his future work. He has been a child care counselor for a group home in Sacramento, a volunteer bicycle mechanic; a crew leader for inner-city middle-school youth; a wildlife monitor in San Francisco, an entomology field assistant; biology field intern in Hawaii, a bird researcher in Alaska, a wildlife habitat restoration volunteer on Midway Island, a trail crew worker in Yosemite National Park and a member of a student housing cooperative in Eugene. Through his journey he has met many people of all ages, backgrounds and histories who have contributed to his life and changed him in meaningful ways. He wants to extend his journey through the study documentary film and media. Despite having technical camera skills, knowledge of editing software, and a burgeoning curiosity of the filmmaking process, he values storytelling above all of these things.
