Welcome to our home page. We live in Atlanta, Georgia and have been traveling and taking photographs for many years. Ren is a native Atlantan. He graduated from Emory University and earned a Masters in Health Administration from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He served in the Administration of Emory Crawford Long Hospital and Emory Healthcare for 32 years before retiring in 2009. He also is a freelance travel writer and photographer. His work has been published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other Cox newspapers, Georgia Journal Magazine, Georgia Magazine, Atlanta Magazine, Tennis Magazine, and other periodicals. He has also contributed chapters to Fodor's Pocket Guide to Atlanta and Fodor's Cityguide Atlanta. In 2003 he completed Caring for Atlanta: A History of Emory Crawford Long Hospital. In 2009, He and Helen co-authored Best Hikes Near Atlanta and Best Easy Day Hikes Atlanta, both for Falcon Guides (www.falcon.com). Most recently, we completed work on the 4th Revised and Expanded edition of Atlanta Walks that was released in October 2011. In addition, our guidebook "Our Mark On This Land": A Guide to the Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in America's Park was released in December 2011 by Ohio-based publisher McDonald and Woodward [http://www.mwpubco.com/]. Finally, the University of Georgia Press [www.ugapress.org] published Atlanta's Oakland Cemetery: An Illustrated History and Guide, a book we developed in collaboration with the Historic Oakland Foundation [www.oaklandcemetery.com]. The book was released in July 2012. We have recently completed work on a new book, Landscapes for the People: George Alexander Grant, First Chief Photographer of the National Park Service. The book is published by the University of Georgia Press and released in September 2015 to coincide with the 2016 National Park Service Centennial. For information, check the Guides section of our website or visit www.ugapress.org. Ren is a member of the North American Travel Journalists Association [NATJA], the Atlanta Preservation Center, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The couple are members of the Atlanta History Center and the Historic Oakland Foundation. Helen is a professional educator. She is a native of Lewistown, PA and graduated from Ohio State University. She earned her Masters in Education from Georgia State University. She taught in the Atlanta Public Schools for twenty years and spent the past nine years teaching in a local private school where she specialized in working with children with learning disabilities. She retired in June 2009. Ren and Helen have co-authored five popular guidebooks: Atlanta Walks: A Comprehensive Guide to Walking, Running, and Bicycling the Area's Scenic and Historic Locales; Georgia Walks: Discovery Hikes Through the Peach State's Natural and Human History; Best Hikes Near Atlanta; Best Easy Day Hikes Atlanta; and Atlanta's Oakland Cemetery: An Illustrated History and Guide. The first two books were produced by Peachtree Publishers [www.peachtree-online.com]; the second two were produced by Falcon Guides, a division of Globe Pequot; and the final by the University of Georgia Press. The booksare avialable from both retail booksellers and online retailers including Amazon [www.Amazon.com] We took many of the photographs in the guidebooks and will continually add images from our travel and books to our Photo Galleries. We will post information to our site on upcoming publications, book-signing event, and presentations. We invite readers to join us and share comments and ideas for new places to explore. You may reach us at renandhelen@davisguides.com. We are pleased to announce that our popular guidebook, Atlanta Walks, is now available as an E-book for use on computers, tablets, and smartphones.
